Arts and Sciences
Our members enjoy bringing to life the many crafts, skills and technologies of the Middle Ages and Renaissance. You will see their flattering costumes, colourful banners, delicious food, singing and dancing and magnificent pavilions adding to the atmosphere of our events.
We cover a huge range of activities including armouring, costuming, cooking, brewing, calligraphy and illumination, embroidery, weaving, metalwork, woodwork, leatherwork, glasswork, pottery, singing, dancing, music, theatre and gardening. We learn about these aspects of the past through research and practice. It’s sometimes surprising how much more you can learn by making and using an artefact than by just reading about it. It’s also more fun.
On these pages you will find a small sample of the work our people have been doing.
If you’d like to get involved:
Everyone here started as a complete beginner, this means that you could also do any of these things and we’ll be happy to help you get started.
Join our email list and Facebook group to find out about arts and sciences activities and come along. We hold regular meetings, classes and competitions all over Perth.
Ask people about what they are doing at events or about what they are wearing. Most of us love to talk about our projects and will be happy to share advice and patterns.
The Arts and Sciences Minister can put you in touch with people who can help you, arrange classes and answer any questions about this area of the SCA.
Or just start making things!
